i probably don't want kathleen sebelius to invest in a company in which she ran a website for. we have learned a few things in the process already. i think there will be some doubt about the government running a website in particular. and we get to see this process lay out. the results will make a big tifrns. i do think it will be hard for the republicans to get rid of the ban on pre-existing conditions. certain things will be hard to repeal. overall effort, we just don't -- we're very early in a six-month process. don't know what -- until we know the results, we don't know how it will affect government policy going forward. >> it will make it hard for the easy sell. we live in an instant gratification society. we also are at an age where we, as voters, fall prey to the idea that things can be done rather simply. this is part of the obama message of 2008. we can do things simply. george bush promised a simple solution to iraq. these things don't pan out. if you want to push a government message, think from here on you have to be more realistic with people as to the difficulty a

replacing sebelius isn't going to fix anything right now. it would be a long, potentially contentious fight in the senate over replacement. he has bigger fish to fry right now, to get this thing up and running. >> can you explain, though, jonathan? you know this president from your books and the like. this is his signature legislation. how do you explain the problems with this rollout? >> there is no good explanation. they messed it up. the question is, what are the long-term kons questions, if any, of them having messed this up? we can't really predict that because that's predicting whether the tech people will get their act together or not. i don't think any of us are in any position to accurately predict that. but we could note just again for historical context to put these events in context. when they rolled out the medicare prescription part d in 2006, big problems with that initially. when they rolled out romney care in massachusetts, big problems initially. nobody remembers those now because those programs ended up being implemented s
